Carabidae Checklists with Keys

The checklists associated with this inventory project are intended to help users identify ground beetles in the family Carabidae at and around NEON field sites. The checklists are based primarily on specimens and data generated as part of the NEON project.
Species checklists and specimen images have been curated by Andrew Johnston through the use of open NEON carabid trapping data and pinned specimens in the NEON Biorepository. Morphological characters are coded by Evan Waite from published literature sources and specimen examination.
Research Checklists
Research checklists are pre-compiled by biologists.
This is a very controlled method for building a species list, which allows for
specific specimens to be linked to the species names within the checklist and thus serve as vouchers.
Specimen vouchers are proof that the species actually occurs in the given area. If there is any doubt, one
can inspect these specimens for verification or annotate the identification when necessary.
