Plant: herb or subshrub; Several-stemmed, ca. 0.5 m tall, stellate-pubescent and sometimes also with simple hairs ca. 2 mm long Leaves: ovate-oblong, prominently dentate, essentially concolorous Flowers: solitary in the leaf axils; calyx 6.5-9 mm long; petals ca. 1 cm long, yellow fading reddish; styles ca. 8 Fruit: FRUITS oblate, apically pubescent, 5-6 mm diameter; mericarps usually 8 (sometimes more), laterally reticulate, the apical spines 0-1 mm long; SEEDS solitary, glabrous Misc: 750-1050 m (2500-3500 ft); Aug-Oct REFERENCES: Fryxell, Paul A. 1994.
