Plant: shrub; to 2 m tall, often sprawling; current growth much branched Leaves: sessile, 0.4-4.5 cm long, 0.2-1.4 cm wide, those of branches markedly smaller that those of main axis; blade ovate to lanceolate; margin entire or with a few teeth INFLORESCENCE: RACEMES to 10 cm long, 1-1.5 cm wide. OUTER BRACT 3-8 mm long, 2-6 mm wide; margin crenate or with small teeth to nearly entire; apex abruptly attenuate Flowers: petals connate, 2.5-6.5 mm long; stamens 5-10 mm long Fruit: ACHENE 1.5-3 mm long; SEED subapical; testa non-sculptured; endosperm lacking Misc: Open sandy to gravelly areas, often in washes; below 1500 m (5000 ft); Apr-Nov Notes: Hairs on leaf surface are retrorse and recurved.Petals clawed.
