Tessier, N., Noël, S. and Lapointe, F.J., 2004. A new method to discriminate the deer mouse (Peromyscus maniculatus) from the white-footed mouse (Peromyscus leucopus) using species-specific primers in multiplex PCR. Canadian Journal of Zoology, 82(11), pp.1832-1835.
PCR targeting the COIII mitochondrial gene of P. leucopus and P. maniculatus was executed according to Tessier et al. (2004). Successful amplification of DNA resulted in 159-bp fragment (P. leucopus).
Hair and/or whisker sample collected from a small mammal as part of the NEON small mammal box trapping protocol conducted for 1-3 nights 4-6 times annually.
